About this project
What we’re building and why
GOES Downlink is the physical weather-satellite receiving system at Gigabyte Grove. It receives data from NOAA’s GOES geostationary satellites and feeds that data into local processing tools for imagery and weather products.
The project covers the receiving antenna, SDR and RF chain, alignment, signal quality, host hardware, network path, and the ongoing work required to keep a continuous satellite downlink useful. The companion GOES Processor for Linux project handles the software and processing side.
Because GOES is geostationary, the station can provide a persistent weather-data source rather than waiting for short overhead passes, making it an important part of the Grove’s wider weather stack.
